Within my current images, I am working with the alternative photo mediums of cyanotype and van dyke. These darkroom processes deal with an imperfection and uniqueness to each print, which are unable to be exactly replicated. While working with many chemicals, I am learning that there is an inexact science to the techniques.
The silhouettes I create personify the mixing of science, nature, and humankind together. Organic forms of foliage, somewhat undefined, relate to human facial features and internal bodily systems.
I am also translating this idea to digital layering. I’m drawn to the symbolism of the human head. While the outside form itself is individual and the focus of human physique, the inside of the head holds the mind - our main creative hub.
These images are a work in progress. I plan on making more silhouettes, as well as better understanding my conceptual ideas.
