Humans dominate nature, yet nature envelopes us and dictates how we live. We benefit from the earth and its system. The majority of mankind has a dualistic worldview - that humans and nature are separate, rather than a holistic worldview - focusing in human relationship and connection to the earth. We are materialistic in the sense of seeing the earth as being more unthinking and unfeeling, as opposed to animistic in being aware of the life and spirit the earth holds.
In these obscure portraits, I don't want my subjects to blend into the environment around them. I want their presence seen without the image being fully about the person. In print, it is a small size in order for the viewer to have an intimate moment with the images. Thus reflecting the intimate connection between humans and nature.
